On what the U.S. President Donald Trump has dubbed "Liberation Day," he announced a universal "baseline" 10% tariff on all imports into the U.S., with different countries facing even higher tariffs. In an interview with SFC, David Blair, U.S. Senior Economist, said the tariffs could trigger a difficult economic transition but might ultimately benefit average Americans by shifting income from capital to labor. Blair also suggested the U.S. is moving toward a more regionalized world order, with less global integration and a more isolationist stance.
